Formed in Reading during the 70s, The Shrinking Men performed through to the early 80s.  Their music was based on experimentation with sounds, riffs and rhythms ranging from rock, reggae to more contemporary Jazz styles – but always electric.  A musical style that was influential and can be heard in many of the more serious 80s bands.  As live performers, the music was raw and exciting, which is why several of the tracks here are either live with an audience or live sessions.

The band played local pubs, clubs and festivals – most notably the Alternative Reading Festival and the Stonehenge Festival.  Their “home base” was the Fox and Hounds in Caversham, but they performed all over the town (including one memorable evening in The George) and, indeed the country.

The band often played gigs with a number of other Reading bands, including L7, The Fast Crowd and Jonny & the Moondogs.  The music here is performed by a line-up of Nick Duckett (Drums), Chris Colley (Guitar, vocals), Baz Wall (Keys, vocals), Jon Moon (Bass) and Bill Cosgrove on vocals.
